This is the shocking moment a hit-and-run driver mowed down a pedestrian as he crossed the road.
The CCTV footage shows the car waiting at a junction in Stockport before accelerating and turning into the victim as he walked across the road.
The pedestrian bounces off the bonnet of the car, believed to be a Honda Civic, before crashing onto the road.
A passer-by found him seriously hurt and called for help.
Police are treating the incident as an ‘unprovoked assault’.
The victim, a man of 33, suffered severe bruising and a back injury and had to stay in the hospital for nearly a week after the incident in Offerton.
Today (Friday) Greater Manchester Police released CCTV footage of the ‘truly horrifying assault’ and appealed to the public to help catch the driver.
The incident happened at around 6 am on Sunday, December 3, as the man was crossing Victoria Park Road at the junction with Hall Street in Offerton.
As he crossed the road, he was hit by a dark-colored vehicle and left lying in the middle of the road whilst the driver fled down Hall Street towards Marple.
The driver has been described as a white man with dark hair who was wearing a beige tracksuit.
Det Con Jane Milner, of GMP’s Stockport division, said: “This was a truly horrifying assault on an innocent man who was simply crossing the road.
“You will see in the footage the exact moment the man was hit and I would implore anyone that has any information to please get in touch.“It happened in a residential area in the early hours of the morning so I would appeal to anyone that saw or heard anything suspicious in the area at the time to please contact police.
“The driver clearly showed no regard for the pedestrian. He left him lying in the road with no awareness of the extent of his injuries. He could have quite literally left him for dead and we need to find him so that he can be held accountable for his actions.
