A robber snatched tens of thousands of pounds in business takings from a man as he walked to a bank.

Shocking CCTV footage released by police shows the victim running after the robber, as he tries to jump into a moving getaway car.

The man, who was walking alone along Bridgewater Place in Manchester city centre towards a bank to deposit the takings at the time, fell to the ground as he gave chase, but escaped unhurt.

The robber, whose face is disguised with a hoodie, is shown to throw what appears to be a red plastic bag containing the cash into the blue Renault Twingo through the open door as he runs along.

Police confirmed that the robber does eventually manage to climb into the car and both he and the driver escape onto Tib Street.

An exact value of the cash stolen has not been released. Police would only confirm ‘a substantial amount’.

Officers from GMP were called to reports of the robbery at around 5pm on Wednesday, July 26. Details however have only just been released by the force.

Det Con Katherine Kerrigan said: “It has been over a month since this shocking robbery that occurred during one of the busiest times of the day.

“We are hoping that someone might recognise the man or the car in the CCTV footage, or remember seeing something suspicious. We have launched an investigation and I would ask that anybody who thinks they may know something that can assist with our investigation to please contact police.

”If you saw the man in the CCTV in the area around the time of the offence, or have any information about him, then please also get in touch.”

The Twingo parked up on Bridgewater Place and the CCTV footage shows the robber getting out of the car to follow the man, who hasn’t been named.

He is shown returning and escaping after the robbery.

The Renault Twingo sped up to access Tib Street before turning onto Church Street, police said.
