Wooden pole used to beat man in shocking daylight attack filmed by passerby on mobile phone
Three men were arrested in connection with the fight in Leicester but have been released pending further investigation, police said
Footage has emerged of a man being brutally beaten with a wooden pole in a violent street fight filmed by a passerby on their mobile phone.
One of the attackers is seen swinging a pole at the unnamed victim – hitting him across the body and snapping the wood as it hits a car.
The injured man is then seen trying to fend off the gang and protect himself from further blows.
The attack took place in Duffield Street, Spinney Hills, Leicestershire, shortly before 3pm on Monday,
The Leicester Mercury reports.
At one point, the injured man can be seen lying in the road while the gang takes it in turns to beat him.
Police arrested three men in connection with the fight but later released them from police custody pending further investigation.
A man was taken to the hospital and was treated for a minor head injury. He has since been discharged.
One witness, who lives in the area, said: “I don’t know what it was about but it was very violent. “It just happened out there on the street in the middle of the afternoon.
“These men didn’t seem to care.
“I don’t recognise these young men. I don’t think they are from around here. I wonder how much they will talk about why they did this.”
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Leicestershire Police said: “Three men arrested in connection with a fight in the city have been released from police custody pending further investigation.
“Officers on routine patrol saw the fight as it happened in Duffield Street, Leicester, at about 2.50pm on Monday 24 July.
“A number of men were involved and one sustained a minor head injury. He was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
